Hello friends! So you’ve all seen pictures of our entry by now, but I haven’t shown you what it used to look like before we moved in. Today I want to share some before and after shots and the details behind the simple and inexpensive makeover we gave it!
Here is a shot of the entryway before we moved in. Great functionality, just needed a little bit of updating.
What we did:
Installed Hardwood floors: (We used maple to match the rest of the house.)
Painted Trim: We used Semi Gloss Ultra White paint by Valspar. To be honest, we weren’t thrilled with the coverage of this paint and would recommend using Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore for trim paint instead. We needed 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint to cover our dark stained trim. We just happen to live down the street from a Lowes and went with convenience/cheaper cost, but in this case, we would recommend using a better quality paint. You live and you learn!
Painted Interior Front Door & Closet Doors: I wanted a little pop of color to make an impact when guests first walk in, but I needed something that would tie into the rest of the colors and decor in the house. We used Tradewind by Sherwin Williams and love the way it turned out. It’s a little more of a gray tone in person and not as light blue.
Replaced the blinds: We chose a dark brown bamboo from Overstock. These are on sale and I’m really happy with them. (The pulls are very long and I would recommend securing them to the side of the window/trim (especially if you have small children). We just haven’t gotten around to it yet;)
Replaced the light fixture: I found this Pottery Barn inspired lantern from Overstock for over half the price of the Hundi Flushmount from Pottery Barn. I love this light and would definitely buy it again for this space. I would say the quality obviously isn’t as good as some Pottery Barn lighting we have, but in an entryway where people aren’t really lingering, it felt like it made sense to save money here. In a space like a dining room where people sit and gather and are more likely to notice lighting, I would recommend getting the Pottery Barn version:)
Added new closet door knobs: I chose these antique looking pewter iron ones from Hobby Lobby to tie in with the light fixture. I would definitely recommend them for their selection and prices for knobs. Such a simple change and makes a big impact.

I hope you guys liked this makeover! We are still so thrilled with the way it all turned out. All of the projects, besides the hardwood floors, that we have done so far with the house have been pretty budget friendly…mostly just paint and cosmetic changes. We definitely learn as we go and are chiseling away at each room one at a time. It’s a process and I love being able to share our progress with you all along the way.
